Ha! That EW ad really freaked me out. And it was a surprisingly good show. Though I had a little trouble believing that a “redneck” who'd never met a “homosexual American” before would overcome his homophobia that quickly.

Same here, although I imagine it's like meeting a millionaire for the first time: You know they exist, you're even pretty sure they're normal people except for a lifestyle difference, but all you can think is "holy shit, this guy has SO MUCH MONEY!", but once you accept it, you get used to it. In other words, it's not homophobia per se, but rather lack of prior exposure.
